Cochrane Transport and NZL Group realised that individually pricing by Fonterra site perhaps was the smartest way to look at securing the domestic transport rights for further term.
With this new focus they joined forces and formed a joint venture company "Dairy Transport Logistics" (DTL) to prove to the then Anchor Products the advantage of combining transport companies other business commodities, and the best utilization of fleet vehicles available to produce a high level transport combination linked with a fail proof service policy and best pricing practices, coupled with commitment and innovation.

10 years on; DTL now faces the challenge to provide a even greater level of efficiencies and cost savings through a complete supply chain involvement with Fonterra, balancing transport activity with export and local product movements, it sees itself moving away from a geographical business model to a national one while at the same time protecting the partnerships and position of the regional carriers.
Dairy Transport Logistics (DTL) is truly New Zealand's largest specialist third party logistics provider of dairy and related produce and Fonterra's preferred road transport provider. DTL coordinates transportation for the whole supply chain of finished product, important and local ingredients as well as packaging. These goods are carried on pallets and in ISO containers.
Our national network of carriers provide solutions for various packaging formats at ambient, chilled and frozen temperatures from Northland down to South Port in Bluff, cover any mode of transport; by road, rail and sea.
DTL has over 1248 drivers nationwide - all inducted and able to carry dairy related products - and over 68 transport related companies covering all modes of transport included in our Risk Management Program.
